STRESS POSITIVE

What is Positive Stress?

Positive Stress is kind of stress which triggers trilling excitement when you confront the stressful situation which you can handle. In most cases the positive stress “provides” additional energy for implementing and/or completing some duties – passing important exams, implementing exciting projects, winning competition, confronting obstacles, etc. Positive stress increases the level of adrenaline to help accomplish goals, fulfill duties and/or meet planned deadlines.

Positive stress is important for problem solving, for finding compromises and for making changes in our life. Thanks to positive stress we are able to change daily routine, respond to threatening situations, change of lifestyle, and move to another job or to another city. Generally speaking, the positive stress is a good thing – it is productive and effective; it is absolutely necessary when we are confronting problems and challenges.

Dr Hans Selye was a pioneering Hungarian endocrinologist – he was the first person who defined stress. Dr Hans Selye was recognized as "father" of stress research – he first demonstrates the existence of biological stress (body's nonspecific response to a demand placed on it). Dr Selye actually explained that human body has a certain reaction to any demands that are placed on it (physically, psychologically, or mentally).

Dr Hans Selye identified two types of stress - good stress and harmful stress. He called the good stress "Eustress".

The word “Eustress” consists of two parts - the prefix “eu” derives from the Greek word meaning "well" or "good" + the word “stress” = all together means Positive Stress or Good stress.

Scientists discovered that Eustress provides mental alertness, motivation, efficiency and increased self-esteem. Actually stress can be beneficial if people react positively (as positive as possible depending on situation).

"Adopting the right attitude can convert a negative stress into a positive one”

Hans Selye

"Stress is like spice - in the right proportion it enhances the flavor of a dish. Too little produces a bland, dull meal; too much may choke you"
Donald Tubesing

In most cases Positive Stress gives additional energy to throw yourself into something where you want to make some contribution and/or accomplishment (passing exam, winning competition, marrying loved one, etc.)

Many women recognize that life without stress could be very boring and not interesting. Positive Stress makes life interesting and exciting - positive stress is essential for bringing zest to our boring life and positive stress is surprisingly healthy for our body. Positive stress is making us stronger.

Very often we hear about negative effects of stress on our health and very rare we speak about positive effects of stress which pushes us to compete, to grow, to change, to fight and/or to adapt. Thanks to positive stress we can achieve more, to improve many things in our life, to win competitions, to fight for justice and to support poor and weak.

Lack of positive stress could reduce our motivations, decrease our desires and make our life uninteresting and boring. Scientists discovered that slightly increased levels of cortisol could actually enhance learning and memory abilities. Positive stress is very useful for our creativity, physical activities and excitements – positive stress always stimulate and support our motivation and inspiration. Positive stress is essential for our success and has to be praised.

A lot depends on personal abilities – one stress could be positive for one person but it could be negative for another person. Actually stress becomes harmful when it exceeds our ability to cope. So, how do we know when it is too much stress or just the right amount of stress? Only life experiences could introduce the answer.

"If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it"

Mary Engelbreit

Many famous scientists made important inventions while being in positive stress - many solutions and finished tasks were achieved when scientists were positively stressed. It was noted that positive stress is providing more creative solutions.
