Stress is an important part of our everyday life - coming from people we communicate, from events happening, from unexpected threats, etc. In most cases stress could be considered as challenges and/or problems of our life (problematic relationships, obstacles in our jobs, financial problems, family conflicts, children difficulties, etc.). All stressful factors are recognized by our body as threat and effects of stress on the body, is a normal physical response to events that make us feel threatened or upset. Generally speaking, the stress response is the body's way of protecting us – helping us to stay focused, active and alert.
Stress types can be classified differently. Internet is full of different types of stress but main stress types are divided as GOOD or BAD stress; as CUTE or CHRONIC stress; as different types of body stress.
STRESS “good” and “bad”
There are four main types of stress women could experience in life:
Eustress (good stress),
Distress (bad stress),
Hyperstress (bad stress),
Hypostress (bad stress).

Eustress is a short-term positive stress which gives needed motivation for performing or achieving or winning. Eustress can be fun, exciting and energizing (especially during short period of time). Eustress is needed for additional energy and/or inspiration – eustress provides the focus and energy needed for performing at the highest level of our body personal ability. Good stress (Eustress) is quite useful and necessary. The right amount of stress is positive and stimulating – it is healthy and helping us to perform tasks faster and better. Good stress strengthens our muscles, improves our heart functions, and sharpens our reactions and thinking. Some scientists even suggested that eustress helps our bodies resist infection.
Distress is a kind of bad stress – response to different types of upsetting event including changes in job, school or university; changes in life; severe trauma; psychological difficulties; accidents and injuries; death of loved once. Actually distress is what we have in mind. Long-term distress could be a cause for depression in most women.
There are essentially two types of distress - acute stress and chronic stress.
Hyperstress is very specific type of stress when woman is forced to perform above her normal ability and/or her normal capacity at work (business women, abused secretaries, etc.); in the house (big families, single mothers, family abuse, many children, etc.); during overloaded professional performances (singers, actresses, show business women). In hyperstress women are very sensitive and they overreact and ordinary events can trigger a highly emotional outbreak.
Hypostress is actually the opposite of hyperstress – it is a type of stress of bored women. Hypostress could happened when women are doing same things every day without any interest, when women are bored from home routine work, when job is not challenging and not interesting, when women are constantly bored. If women experience hypostress, they could be frequently restless and uninspired.
STRESS acute and chronic
Timeline of stress is very important. Stressors can also be defined as short-term (acute) or long-term (chronic). Stress can come and end very suddenly but sometimes stress can be on-going and long. Some professionals classify stress based on timeline – acute stress (short-term stress) and chronic stress (long-term stress).
Acute stress is the most common and most intense type of stress – it is happening pretty quickly (short-lived stress). Acute stress is the reaction to an immediate threat - known as the “fight or flight” response. Acute stress is experienced in response to physical or psychological threats - threats could be real or imagined. Acute stress can be beneficial and create motivation. Acute stress could be a normal part of life or the way of life for many women who have exiting life “full of adrenalin” – life full of stress, crisis, chaos, risks and excitements.
Common causes of acute stress include rape, robbery, combat or natural disaster, noise, crowding, isolation, hunger, danger, infection, and imaginary threats (fantasized dangerous or risky situations).
Acute stress is the type of stress women could feel when they pass exams, have car accident, when they have problems at work or when their children create problems in the family or in the school. Once the situation is resolved - the stress diminishes.
Acute stress trigger acute body responses which actually become a habit that is difficult to break. During acute stress women could have worry habits and could believe that life is scary and the world is pretty dangerous place to live. Women in acute stress engage in blaming and become irritable with friends, relatives, colleagues, even in ordinary social situations.
Main symptoms of acute stress include headache, dizziness, sweating, fast breathing, heart palpitation, stomach aches or indigestion, chest pain.
Chronic stress is the type of stress that arises out of long-term pressure (constant conflicting relationships, traumatic events that happened during childhood, taking care of illnesses or disabilities, trapped in poverty, experiencing family physical, psychological or sexual abuse, etc.). Chronic stress is a result of situations which were not been resolved or continued for many years prior to being resolved. Long-lasting negative events (beyond our control) are the main cause of chronic stress.
Women suffering from chronic stress sometimes get used to it and could even not realize that they are under chronic stress. It is well known that under the circumstances of chronic stress or extreme, severe stress women suffer the most and face most negative stress symptoms/effects. Chronic stress often triggers feelings of hopelessness, helplessness, and misery – women often cannot find the way out and sometimes could have suicidal thoughts. Chronic stress could have negative influence at women health – could be a cause of high blood pressure, obesity, anorexia, cancer, diabetes, ulcer, allergy, heart diseases, depression and sexual dysfunctions. Chronic stress is the most serious type of stress that can lead to harmful health problems or even death.
