About 30-35% pregnant women experience implantation bleeding and/or brown discharge during implantation. Implantation bleeding is a vaginal discharge which usually contains a small amount of pinkish or brown blood.
Usually the implantation brown discharge can happen at the time the fertilized egg implants in the uterus - the attachment of the fertilized egg to the uterine lining, on average between 6 to 12 days after ovulation (on average about 9 days post ovulation). As the uterine lining contains many small blood vessels, during implantation there can be a bit of blood expelled in some women. Small portion of oxidized uterine lining blood usually appeared as implantation brown discharge.
Period usually starts about 14 days after ovulation, so if you know when you ovulated and you experience some spotting, less than your period, about a week after ovulation, then it could be implantation brown discharge. In most cases the implantation bleeding actually appeared as brown spotting which could last 1-2 days.

Unless accompanied by cramping, backache or increased bleeding, a small amount of brown discharge could be considered as implantation brown discharge which is nothing to be concerned about.
Implantation brown discharge could appear before you expect your period and it could look like spotting before ordinary regular period. Many women mistook it for spotting before their period begins. The timing of implantation brown discharge depends on ovulation date and fertilization period. As mentioned before, only 30-35% pregnant women experience the implantation bleeding. The majority of pregnant women even don’t know the implantation day.
Implantation bleeding is something that many women assume that they will experience, but many doctors believe that it is the exception not the rule. So the conclusion is- if you are pregnant, better don’t expect the implantation bleeding; and if you had implantation brown discharge – don’t worry, you do not need to be alarmed if you do experience it.

It then travels down the fallopian tube, increasing its size along the way.
