Strong cup of coffee could prevent IVF complications

After finding a potential cause, researchers proposed that life threatening complication of fertility could be prevented with a cup of coffee. The IVF treatment frequently resulted in birth of many infants, but almost five to ten percent of women undergoing IVF experience condition called OHSS (ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome).
Though majority of cases are mild complication including symptoms such as nausea, bloating and weight gain. In the sternest cases, it can cause blood clotting disorders, chest pain and kidney damage. The research team from Middlesex University and Barat and The London School of Medicine and Denistry investigated fluid around human egg.
They found unexpectedly elevated levels of the chemical adenosine. It though that OHSS is caused when IVF drug stimulation produces high levels of adenosine causing the blood vessels to dilate and blood fluid to leak into tissue. Though, adenosine has been identified in follicular fluid, before they were astonished at the tremendously high levels identified in the study.

The chemical was depicted as an important contestant as the molecular causes of OHSS. For verification of adenosine in blood samples, researchers used a method known as metabolomics that involves the study of chemical proof of cellular process, reported the authors of the study and published in Metabolism Journal.
A solution could lie in caffeine that works as a wedge to adenosine. A strong cup of coffee with every IVF cycle could decrease the odds of OHSS. Caffeine contends with adenosine for the same receptors, efficiently jamming adenosine’s action and it could therefore potentially treat the cause of this condition, explained Ray Iles, professor of biomedical science from Middlesex University.
